The Children’s Advocacy Center of McKean County, Bradford City Fire Department, Suzy Meyer-Page and two youth recipients — Preston & Delaney’s Lemonade Stand and Bradford Marching Owls Drum Major Colby Blauser — will be honored during the Champions Awards ceremony Nov. 14 at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Recipients were selected by the Kiwanis Champions Awards Committee following a community-wide nomination process.
The Children’s Advocacy Center of McKean County will receive the Brighter Future Award, which recognizes an organization whose work has a meaningful and measurable impact on the lives of local children and families.
The Bradford City Fire Department was selected for the Valor Award, honoring first responders for courage, dedication and commitment to service.
Meyer-Page will receive the Everyday Hero Award, recognizing an individual whose generosity, service and commitment to others exemplify the difference one person can make in the community.
Two recipients were selected for the Rising Star Award after the committee received what it described as particularly strong nominations in the category.
Preston & Delaney’s Lemonade Stand and Blauser, drum major for the Bradford Marching Owls, will share the honor, which recognizes young people who demonstrate initiative, leadership and service to their community.
“These awards are about recognizing the people who make our community stronger, often without ever asking for recognition in return,” said Mark Young, president of the Kiwanis Club of Bradford. “The nominations we received showed just how many people in our area are quietly doing extraordinary things.
“Our recipients represent different kinds of service, but they share something important: each of them demonstrates the impact people can have when they choose to serve others.”
The Champions Awards were created this year to recognize individuals, young people, organizations and first responders for their contributions to the community.
The Nov. 14 awards event at Pitt-Bradford will be open to the public and will also serve as a fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club of Bradford and its programs benefiting children and families.
Community members, families, organizations, businesses and local leaders are invited to attend.
Additional information on tickets and sponsorship opportunities will be announced by the Kiwanis Club of Bradford.
