Owls XC run well at Ridgway

Bradford took the top five places on Tuesday at Ridgway where the Owls ran against Ridgway and DuBois Central Catholic.  Leading the way as usual were Jordan Hogue (1st – 19:35) and Charlie Vinelli (2nd -19:35).

“These guys hit the finish line at the same time,” Bradford Coach Tom Tessena said. “They were closely followed by Nikolai Frontino (3rd -19:40) and Kadyn Tessena (4th – 19:41).  Xavier Frontino took 5th place(20:10) to secure a perfect score of 15.”

John McLean of DCC was 6th in  20:14.  Colt Fitzgerald of Ridgway was 7th (20:24).  Gavin Weart of Bradford took 8th( 20:57), Cavan Drake was 9th (21:20), Langdon Krepp finished 10th(21:30), and Miles Hawk placed 11th(23:03).

“The course was extremely wet and very muddy so the times were really slow.  We were backing off due to our big meet this weekend in Rochester for the McQuaid Invitational.  There will be over 7,000 runners running in over 20 races,” Tessena said. “We hope to have all our top guys ready for this challenge.  Our 1st three guys have been running well and now we have Kadyn Tessena back and he is working very hard to get up with our front runners.  He was only 10 seconds out of 1st today.  It really helps that our top guys, Jordan ,Charlie, and Nikolai, are getting better each week.  Our 5th man, Xavier Frontino, is also making progress.

“The District 9 AA race is going to be very tough this year and it will be difficult to qualify anyone for States but it is not out of the question.  The meet is held on the Ridgway course so this meet gave us a chance to run on it even if it was very tough today.  We are running out of meets and time for that big meet held on Oct. 31st.  That gives us 30 days to get better.  Right now our dual meet record is 7-2.  We just have to keep working.”

The Owls will run in race #12 at 12:44 on Saturday in Rochester at Genesee Valley Park.

“Our middle school guys continue to run well.  They are now 9-0 in dual meets.  We had a couple who were sick and our top guy, Breyden Spiko got a really bad cramp during the race but he still finished.  Meanwhile the other guys stepped up and ran well,” Tessena said. “7th graders Trey Jackson took 1st(11:42) and Caleb Weart finished 2nd(12:05) to lead the baby Owls. 8th grader  Kaiden Christjohn was 3rd (12:19), 7th grader Brock Crappio placed 4th(12:22), Breyden Sipko placed 5th(13:02), Lars Krepp who was sick, took 6th(13:22)and 7th grader Braxton Plowman was 7th (15:08).    These guys continue to work hard and get better each week.  They also will be running on Saturday at McQuaid and they are really looking forward to this meet.  They will run in race #10 at 12:06 on Saturday while the varsity will toe the line at 12:44 pm.  The meet is held at Genesee  Valley Park in Rochester.”
