COUDERSPORT: Grant supports equipment upgrades for VFD
COUDERSPORT — The Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department has purchased new safety equipment with a $100,000 state grant secured with the help of state Rep. Martin Causer, R-Turtlepoint.
“For our firefighters to effectively do their jobs and protect public safety, we also need to protect them with appropriate equipment,” Causer said. “I was happy to work with Chief Bryan Phelps to secure this grant and ensure the department has the tools it needs to fulfill its mission.”
During a visit to the fire station Thursday, Phelps and department members showed Causer the new equipment. The purchases included 13 complete sets of firefighting gear — pants, coats, boots, gloves and particulate hoods — and 12 thermal-imaging cameras.
The cameras can help firefighters search for missing or trapped people and respond to hazardous-materials incidents.
“These items will greatly assist our members and keep them safe and compliant with National Fire Protection Association standards while serving residents and visitors in our community,” Phelps said. “We are grateful for the help to obtain the funding we need to help our firefighters safely perform their duties.”
