Rodney Peterson

MOUNT JEWETT — Rodney Peterson, 75, of McClellan Avenue, passed away Monday, July 20, 2026, in UPMC-Kane.

He was born Aug. 5, 1950, in Kane, the son of the late Andrew “Grant” and Alice (Silvis) Peterson. He eloped with Linda Groves to Hagerstown, Maryland on Nov. 26, 1969. She preceded him in death Aug. 15, 2022.

Rodney attended the Mount Jewett and the Kane High School and graduated in 1968. He had worked at Stackpole in Kane and also Pennzoil. He drove a chip truck for a while and then worked as the maintenance supervisor and sewer plant operator for the Mount Jewett Borough until his retirement.

Baseball was his favorite sport and he was a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan. One of his favorite pastimes was watching his grandson play baseball from Little League up through high school. He was a former Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball coach and umpired countless games when his grandson played. He also loved Kane High School football when Andrew played and attended every game for many years.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially deer season when he spent many days at his deer stand on Bentley Hill with his son and brother, Gordy. He was a past hunter education instructor; a rifle instructor for McKean County Youth Field Day; a life member of the Mount Jewett Sportsmen’s Club; and a member of the Sons of American Legion Squadron #574.

He is survived by a son, Steve (Skye Doyon) Peterson of Mount Jewett; a brother, Gordy (Tammy Peterson) Peterson of Mount Jewett; a sister, Jan (Joe) Kreitzer of Mount Jewett; a grandson, Andrew (Kourtney) Peterson of Winnabow, N.C.; three brothers-in-law, Ed Groves of Mount Jewett, Gary Groves of St. Marys and Joe Groves of Mount Jewett; two sisters-in-law, Georgianne (Gary) Geer of Mount Jewett and Darlene (Mike) Holliday of Indiana, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Ellsworth.

Services will be held at a later date to be announced.
