Anthony E. Brzenski Jr., 87, “Tony” to most, son, brother, cousin, uncle to some, husband to one, father and grandfather to few, passed away to be with his wife, Mary, of 53 years on June 18, 2026.

He was a beloved and respected pillar of his community, his peers and especially his family. Born and raised in Scranton, music was his life. After graduating salutatorian from Scranton Tech, he attended Mansfield University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music, education and theory. Proudly, he was a fraternal member of Phi Mu Alpha. He then graduated with a master’s degree in music from Ithaca College all the while performing in jazz ensembles and touring big-bands back when the Poconos were in full swing and all throughout the state.  After his accreditations, he landed in the quaint historic town of Smethport, where he educated and inspired young musicians in the surrounding area for more than 42 years.

During which, he was a huge proponent of the arts. He was synonymous with the legendary productions of the local Kiwanis Club’s biggest fundraiser, Kiwanis Kapers, which he wrote and directed and performed in during most of his career, as well as performing for many local theater pits and community orchestras.

He and his wife, Mary, traveled abroad to Italy, Greece, Portugal, England and France, took trips to Mexico with their grandchildren and visited St. Barts in the Caribbean, all while enjoying many of the Eastern seaports. Out of all of their travels, their trips to Italy were their most cherished.

He lived a full and beautiful life. He is survived by four children, Noel (Jeff) Moretti of Scarsdale, N.Y., Anthony “Chris” Brzenski of Bradford, Dana Brzenski of York and Amber Brzenski of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Gloria Burke of Harrisburg and Sandi Brzenski of Arlington, Va.; three granddaughters, Ava and Paige Moretti and Leah Brzenski; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (July 18, 2026) at St. Bernard Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Walk, senior associate pastor, as celebrant.
