SMETHPORT — Gordon D. “Duke”  Irons, 77, of Smethport passed away Sunday (June 21, 2026) at his home.

He was born Dec. 3, 1948, in Bradford, the son of Gordon J. and Elizabeth Armstrong Irons.

He was the loving longtime companion of Tina M. Petruzzi, who survives.

Duke was a 1966 graduate of Bradford High School and attended Penn State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in forestry in 1970.

Duke worked for the Kendall/Witco oil refinery in Bradford until he retired.

He was a member of Northern Star Lodge 555 F&AM of Duke Center, the Scottish Rite and NMJ of Coudersport; was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association; and a member of Smethport Country Club. He loved golfing and enjoyed hunting.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Tina M. Petruzzi of Smethport; one sister, Diana Lynne Irons of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.; niece and nephews Jeremiah Brown, Naomi Brown and Reuben Brown; and great-nieces and great-nephews Michael Maynard, Christian Flanders, Violet Southwick, Athena Flanders and Zappa Maynard; along with many, many cousins.

Duke was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Duke’s life for friends and family will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday (June 28, 2026) at Smethport Country Club, 130659 Route 59. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany.
