Don’t live here, don’t dump here, city says

City officials reminded the public that the municipal dump site at the end of Holley Avenue is restricted to use by City of Bradford residents only, citing increased use by non-residents.

According to the city, the restriction is outlined in City Ordinance General File No. 2801, as amended, which prohibits individuals who live outside the city limits from disposing of garbage, rubbish, refuse or recyclables at any city-operated facility, including the recycling center and the Holley Avenue site.

Officials said the recent uptick in unauthorized use has placed an additional financial burden on city taxpayers, as the service is funded specifically for residents.

Signs posted at the site reiterate that dumping is limited to city residents and outline specific rules for use. Yard waste is accepted, but branches must be no more than 6 inches in diameter or 4 feet in length, and items such as stumps, root balls and contractor dumping are prohibited.

Other prohibited materials include construction debris such as drywall and lumber, tires, hazardous waste like paint and oils, electronics, mattresses, appliances and furniture.

The site is monitored by 24-hour video surveillance, and license plates are recorded. Violations of the ordinance could result in fines of $250 for a first offense and $500 for subsequent offenses.

City officials ask for the public’s cooperation in adhering to the policy to ensure the service remains available to residents for many years to come.

Those who do not live within city limits are encouraged to use their township’s waste disposal service or private providers.
