Verna Clark
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Verna Ann Madison Clark, 90, of Citrus Heights died peacefully at home Feb. 28, 2026.
Born June 7, 1935, in Aiken to Vern and Cora Mina Madison, she grew up in Aiken, graduating from Smethport High School where she met her husband, William N. Clark. They were married Dec. 30, 1956, in Aiken, settling in at Otis Air Force Base in Massachusetts. Air Force life took them to several places, from Massachusetts, to Alaska, Colorado and finally settling in California.
For many years Verna worked as a bank teller. She was a member of Phoenix Chapter 15, Order of the Eastern Star. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, and also belonged to various community bands in the Sacramento region over the years playing alto clarinet.
Verna is survived by her daughters, Carol Jane (Barry) Wilhelm of North Highlands and Jo Ann Carroll of Loomis; grandsons Markham Carroll of Loomis, Benjamin Wilhelm of North Highlands, Josh Carroll of Placerville and Jacob (Sarah) Wilhelm of Sacramento; granddaughters Emily (Martin) Chanecka of Sacramento and Aileen (Ben) Godfrey of Reno, Nev.; great-grandchildren Houston and Mia Wilhelm of Sacramento, Eleanor Godfrey of Reno and Andrew Chanecka of Sacramento; and her brother, Mark T. Madison of Marienville, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William N. Clark; son-in-law, Roger Carroll; sister Donna J. Faes; and brother F. Neil Madison.
At her request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner’s Hospital or any Masonic charity of the donor’s choice.
