HURRICANE, W.Va. — David LeRoy Higley, 81, of St. Albans, formerly of Zainesville, Ohio, and Port Allegany, Pa., passed away Feb. 24, 2026. After a long courageous battle, God has his mansion ready for him.

He was born to the late Exzelta Laverta Higley on March 14, 1944, in Buffalo, N.Y. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Patricia Paul Higley. David proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 until retirement in 1984. He had many hobbies, including being a ham radio and Morse code operator, and loading his own ammunition. He was a member of Putnam County Gun Club, Putnam County Ham Radio Club, Charleston Ham Radio and Kanawha Valley Corvette Club, and helped teach archery in the Ohio school system. David loved Corvettes and in 2025 he was able to purchase his dream car — a red Corvette.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 17 years, Angela, of St. Albans; daughter, Andrea (Cathy) Estep of Cross Lanes; bonus daughter, Julie Cones of Smethport, Pa.; brother, Lanny “Pete” Nunn of Port Allegany; grandson, Dylan Townsend of Malden; sister-in-law, Kathy Berine of Belle; brother-in-law, Randy (Lynne) Miller of Moorehead City, N.C.; and an uncle, Edward Higley of Smethport.

A funeral service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 28, 2026) at Chapman Funeral Home Hurricane with the Rev. David Clark officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank special neighbors, Lee and Connie Miller and family, for always being there for us and all their help over the years.
