‘Round the Square: World’s most visited places
TRAVEL: Do your New Year’s resolutions include more travel?
Here are some of the world’s most visited places, from Students Knowledge.
The most visited country in the world is France, home of the most visited monument, the Eiffel Tower, the most visited museum, the Louvre, and the most visited palace, the Palace of Versailles. There, they pronounce it (vr-SAI), not like the place in Pittsburgh, North Versailles Township, which is (vr-SAILS).
The most visited city in the world is Bangkok, Thailand, which is noted for accessibility and broad appeal. It’s known to be an affordable city, cheaper than Western destinations. The city offers world-renowned street food with diverse cuisine, historic temples, bustling markets, palaces, shopping and vibrant street life. It is known for having a relatively low crime rate for tourists.
The most visited historical monument in the world is the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. It was the imperial palace complex. It is now a major public museum with 980 buildings. Be prepared for a lot of walking.
Another place where you’ll do a lot of walking is the most visited theme park in the world, the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It’s a perennial leader, but check the prices and availability before planning a trip. We’ve seen sites that say you could plan a trip to Japan to visit Tokyo Disney Resort for less cost all around. Plus, it would be a visit to Japan. We’ve never been, but we’ve heard it’s gorgeous.
The most visited waterfall in the world is Niagara Falls. We’d guess many of our readers have been. It’s pretty commercialized on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border, but it’s still a worthy place to visit in all seasons. Seeing the ice that forms at the base of the falls is neat.
