‘Round the Square: ‘Spinning in his urn’

QUOTES: We all know no one is perfect, but when the man known as the Leader of the Free World makes a gaffe, it’s memorable.

It hasn’t happened to just one president, or one political party. Saying something dumb is really just part of being human.

Here’s one from President Gerald Ford: “If Abraham Lincoln was alive today he would roll over in his grave.” Hmm.

President Martin Van Buren was flabbergasted by the thought of trains traveling at such high speeds as 15 miles per hour. “The Almighty certainly never intended that people should travel at such breakneck speed.”

President Ronald Reagan: “Facts are stupid things.”

President George H.W. Bush: “I have opinions of my own, strong opinions, but I don’t always agree with them.”

President Joe Biden: “Folks, I can tell you I’ve known eight presidents, three of them intimately.”

President Dwight Eisenhower: “Things have never been more like the way they are today in history.”

President Warren G. Harding: “Oftentimes I don’t seem to grasp that I am president.”

President Barack Obama: “I’ve now been in 57 states — I think one left to go.”

President Bill Clinton: “It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.”

President George W. Bush: “Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB-GYNs aren’t able to practice their love with women all across this country.”

Of course, President Donald Trump is prone to gaffes, too.

“The Continental Army took over the airports in 1775.”

And this one, in Buffalo, N.Y., about 9/11: “I was down there, and I watched our police and our firemen, down on 7-Eleven, down at the World Trade Center, right after it came down.”
