HomeCare & Hospice honors Witte at retirement

ALLEGANY, N.Y. — More than 50 colleagues, friends and family members gathered this week at Doyle Hall on the St. Bonaventure University campus to honor Dr. Gilbert N. Witte, who will retire as medical director of HomeCare & Hospice on Dec. 31, after 34 years of service.

Organizers said the celebration featured a heartfelt tribute video with messages of appreciation from staff, loved ones and community members. Witt was given a commemorative brick with a glass attachment etched with words of appreciation.

Melissa Sullivan, HomeCare & Hospice CEO, praised Witte’s impact: “Dr. Witte goes above and beyond for both our hospice patients and their caregivers. He has a remarkable way of connecting with people and has helped prepare patients and families for their final journey with grace, understanding and peace.”

In his remarks, Witte expressed gratitude to staff, board members and his family for supporting his work over the decades.

“This has been the best part of my medical career — providing care to people and families at this time in their life,” he said.
