Rodney Smith

KING GEORGE, Va. — Rodney John Smith, 69, of King George passed away Nov. 22, 2025, at Mary Washington Hospital.

He was born in Bradford, Pa., on Jan. 31, 1956, to Paul and Helen Smith. Rodney was a member of St. Anthony’s in King GeorgeA. Rodney graduated from Bradford Area High School and attended the University of Maryland, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1980. He was a maintenance manager for Sennett Security Products, Fredericksburg, for 18 years, followed by 10 years as an IT specialist at Dahlgren.

Rodney had a long interest in car racing and was a crew member, along with his wife, of his brother’s race team (TF Racing) for many years. He served as a volunteer for 20 years at Silver Hill Lions Club, where he was the race director for their Demolition Derby, which raised funds for the Lions Club vision program and other charities. Rodney was a collector of many things throughout his lifetime, including three vintage Mustangs, Lego sets and Matchbox cars. He was a lover of animals and was the owner of several rescue dogs over the years. He was extremely generous with his time and talents to any and all who needed his help. But above all else, Rodney enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Smith, and his brother, Roger Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Wilen-Smith; his children, Connor and Duncan Smith; his sisters, Karen (Art) Brennan, Eileen (Jim) Tempero and Annette (Steve) Hanke; and his brother, Gary Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 4, 2025) at Storke Funeral Home, King George.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth of Hungary, at the corner of Boundary and Lossing Avenue, Colonial Beach, VA 22443, at 2 p.m. Friday (Dec. 5, 2025) with Father De Rosa officiating. Burial will follow at Historyland Memorial Park, 11227 James Madison Parkway, King George, VA, 22485.
