‘Round the Square: ‘200 years of weather, wit, wisdom’

THE END: It’s hard to say goodbye. Especially when it’s to a wonderful publication that’s enriched lives for two centuries.

Farmers’ Almanac is hanging it up after the 2026 edition.

“After more than 200 years of sharing a unique blend of weather, wit and wisdom, we have had to make the very difficult but necessary decision to write the final chapter of this historical publication.

“Many of you grew up hearing your parents or grandparents quote from the Almanac, always having a copy nearby. Maybe you have planted by our Moon phases, consulted the Almanac for the “Best Days” to potty train, wean, or go fishing.”

Some examples from the best days: Nov. 11 is the best day to cut hair to slow growth, to kill plant pests, to start a diet to lose weight, to paint, to pick apples and pears, or to quit smoking.

Christmas Eve is the best day to get married. It’s also the best day to castrate farm animals. Hmm.

Start potty training on Christmas Day, and it’s a good day to cut hair to increase growth.

There’s just nothing like the information you can get from the Almanac — calendars, weather, gardening, astronomy, home and living, holidays and events, lore and so much more.

What’s your birth month herb? Are you a March baby? Then it’s sage, relating to wisdom, purification and protection. July? Parsley for freshness, vitality and purification.

This page on the Almanac’s website comes with a helpful hint to add breadcrumbs to scrambled eggs to increase the volume and add flavor. Yum.

“We’re grateful to have been a part of your life and trust that you’ll help keep the Almanac spirit alive.”

Thanks for everything, Farmers’ Almanac.
