SHEFFIELD — Rich Andrew “Richie” Asel, 45, of Ludlow passed away peacefully Monday (Nov. 3, 2025) at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.

He was born in Kane on April 6, 1980, a son of Richard Asel and the late Terri Petruney Asel. He attended Kane Area Schools. He was employed at Rob Schmidt Trucking as a logger and was serving as assistant chief of Ludlow Volunteer Fire Department. Some of his interests were hunting, fishing, camping with family and friends and Kane 8 Ball pool league. Rich enjoyed spending time with his dog, AJ.

Left behind to cherish Rich’s memory are his long-time girlfriend, Casey Snyder of Ludlow; daughter, Kylee Asel of Ludlow; his beloved puppy dog, AJ; his father Richard (Sylvia) Asel of Kane; two brothers, Troy (Jennifer) Asel of Kane and Matt (Jessica) Asel of Ludlow; and many cousins, including Beth Boedecker, Tessa Hazen, Tanya Kitchen and Jeff (Miranda) and Ben (Selina) Asel; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Terri Lynn (Petruney) Asel; grandparents Richard and Anne Asel; sister Sara Lynn Asel; uncle Tom and aunt Marianne Johnston; and his very special cousin, Rob “Bobby” Asel.

Rich’s family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 9, 2025) at Borden Funeral Home, 203 W. Main St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (Nov. 10, 2025) at Sheffield United Methodist Church, 11 W. Main St., with Pastor David Jett presiding. Burial will follow at Mount Tabor Cemetery, Kane.

The family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made in Rich’s name to the Ludlow Volunteer Fire Department, 4 Curtis St., Ludlow, PA 16333; or the McKean County SPCA, 80 Glenwood Ave., Bradford, PA 16701.
