’Round the Square: Bigfoot’s got boots in Bradford?
BIGFOOT: If you’ve ever heard a suspicious rustle in the woods or spotted a size 23 footprint near Marilla, you’re not alone — Pennsylvania just ranked seventh in North America for Bigfoot sightings.
That’s right. According to a new report from CSB, the Keystone State is officially a top 10 Bigfoot hotspot, trailing only behind Oregon, West Virginia and the reigning champ, Washington. The rankings were based on data from the Bigfoot Field Researchers’ Organization, adjusted for population, forest density and weather. (Apparently, Bigfoot prefers fog and foliage.)
“As the top state for Bigfoot sightings, Washington’s towering evergreens and foggy forests might just be home to the infamous Bigfoot. Maybe Washington is even home to Big Feet.”
“In Pennsylvania, the vast Allegheny National Forest is often cited in Bigfoot reports, with tales enriching folklore,” the report reads.
Yes, the Allegheny National Forest made the list of Pennsylvania’s most active Sasquatch zones, with sightings that stretch back decades.
Washington, the top-ranked state, boasts one Bigfoot sighting for every 11,038 residents. That’s a lot of blurry photos and panicked campers.
Here in Bradford, we haven’t had any confirmed encounters lately — unless you count the guy who swears he saw something “tall and hairy” behind the Country Fair dumpster in 2009. But with our proximity to the forest and a healthy dose of local lore, we’re not ruling anything out.
So next time you’re hiking the White Pines trail or poking around the woods near Rimrock, keep your eyes peeled. You might just spot the big guy — or at least a cousin.
And if you do, grab a photo. Just maybe not with your flip phone, or a potato.
