‘Round the Square: Love it or hate it
CANDY CORN: It’s a Halloween staple, that tricolor little candy that is so divisive. People have strong opinions on candy corn — love or hate. Few people are in the middle of the argument.
CandyStore.com surveyed 3,000 people to ask about candy corn, which seems to make the list each year of the most beloved and the most hated Halloween candy.
Some people love it for the nostalgia, saying it takes them back to their grandma’s house or one bite brings back memories of trick-or-treat adventures of the past.
For some, the chewy, waxy texture is a plus. Instantly recognizable, followed by sweetness, so different from other candies, fans told CandyStore.
Others say it’s a true sign of fall in their household. What’s Halloween without it?
It’s simple and sweet. They can be used in crafts and in baking, as well as snacking.
And they remain affordable.
For others? That sugary taste is too much sweetness. The wax is more than some can stand, saying they feel like they are chewing on candles or crayons.
That blast from the past is more than some people can take. One customer said, “Some traditions just need to fade. Candy corn is one.”
They look pretty, but that’s where the goodness stops, others said. It’s like they forgot about taste. “Looks 10/10, taste 2/10.”
Some said it’s everywhere, and not in a good way. And why so few ingredients? With so few ingredients, why is the calorie count so high?
Overall, what was the verdict? CandyStore.com says the lovers have it! There were 56% who loved the candy to 44% who hated it.
