DRIVE: ‘Tis the season for romantic drives, with flaming fall foliage and cozy, cinematic looking landscapes. It’s the kind of “curb appeal” that Gunther Volkswagen Coconut Creek was asking about in a survey of around 3,000 couples, asking their opinions on the most romantic fall drives in Pennsylvania.

“There is a crispness in the air that encourages blankets, warm drinks, and lingering conversations with the windows cracked open. Unlike summer, when drives are about energy and speed, fall slows everything down — inviting couples to savor the stillness, the shifting light and the fleeting beauty of the season together.”

Number one on the list was U.S. Route 6.  “Crossing the state’s northern tier, Route 6 rolls past lakes, farms, and small towns steeped in Americana and the legacy of coal and lumber. Autumn turns the forests into a living canvas of deep crimson, bright orange, and liquid gold. Scenic stretches and historic detours keep the drive engaging for two. It’s a passage through time and foliage in equal measure.”

How quaint we sound.

Second was the Allegheny Scenic Drive, which “threads through the Allegheny National Forest, a landscape where autumn bursts into fiery shades of red, orange and yellow. Forested hills, glimmering lakes and wooded trails enhance the view, while plentiful overlooks and pull-offs invite couples to stop, take photos and soak in the moment together.”

Just don’t try to pet the wildlife.

In third place was the Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway, which “winds through forested ridges, state parks and rolling farmland in southwestern Pennsylvania. Autumn transforms the landscape into a patchwork of scarlet, amber and gold, with covered bridges and stone churches adding to the view. Along the way, couples can visit Ohiopyle’s waterfalls, tour Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater or simply pull off to take in the mountain vistas.”
