JOHNSONBURG — Richard L. “Dick” Casper, 82, of Bradford Manor, passed away early Friday morning (Sept. 19, 2025), following a lengthy illness.

He was born Feb. 2, 1943, in Salamanca, N.Y., a son to the late Paul and J. Arlene Dryer Casper. On Aug. 19, 1965, in Bradford, he married Sarah J. Coy. A devoted husband, he adored and cared for her until she preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 2018.

Dick lived most of his life in Bradford and was a graduate of Bradford High School. He had retired from Owens-Illinois in Bradford after 43 years of service. He loved his family and grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments. He loved to cook and bake, which he got from his mother, and he would share his baked goods with everyone including friends, neighbors and co-workers. He continued the baking tradition by passing on recipes to his grandchildren. He was also an avid reader and had a large collection of fiction and science books. A generous man, he would often be seen giving his last $10 to people in need.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Alice Ferragine of Bradford and Brenda (David) Jones of Strattanville; his grandchildren, Emily (Jeremy) McClaine, Daniel (Chloe) Lamielle, John Lamielle, Courtney (Zachery) Bowser and Adam (Jennifer) Bond; and his great-grandchildren, Elliana McClaine, Elliot Lamielle, Benjamin Bowser and Oliver and Charlie Bond. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Laura Casper of Bradford.

In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was predeceased by a brother, Raymond J. Casper; and a son-in-law, Thomas Ferragine.

Funeral services and interment for Richard L. Casper will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation.
