‘Round the Square: It’s your birthday?

TODAY: Is today your birthday? (Happy birthday!) You’re not alone. In fact, studies say Sept. 9 is the most common birthday in the United States.

The top 10 most common birthdays are all in September, meaning December is a pretty busy month for conception. The second most popular date is Sept. 19 and the third is Sept. 12.

The only non-September date that appears on the most common list? July 7.

The least common birthdays are often around holidays, like Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

People born in September have a greater chance of living to the age of 100. A 2011 study from the Journal of Aging Research said siblings born in the months from September to November have higher odds to live to 100 than siblings born in March.

Those born in the fall months like September are more likely to become athletes than others. And they tend to be taller than their peers. It’s thought to be because moms-to-be get more Vitamin D in the third trimester which can positively impact the baby’s growth, according to GoodHousekeeping.com

Sept. 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day. It is estimated there are more than 720,000 suicides per year worldwide; 49,300 in the U.S. in 2023 and 1,955 in Pennsylvania in 2022.

Sept. 11 is Patriot Day in the U.S., to honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 victims who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on 9/11/2001. Never Forget — The World Trade Center, Shanksville, the Pentagon.

Sept. 12 is National Video Games Day. Sept. 13 is Positive Thinking Day.

Sept. 20 is National Pepperoni Pizza Day.
