Barbara Himes

Barbara Himes of 47 Bishop St., died Sunday (Sept. 7, 2025) at Bradford Ecumenical Home.

She was born March 2, 1935, to the late Anthony and Mary Bonko Onuffer. After graduating from St. Bernard High School, she worked at Butter Krust bakery, McCourt Label, Glendorn, the Bradford Public Library and as a cook for Dolores Madison and Al and Helen Nusbaum.

Barbara was known for her generosity, kindness, thoughtfulness, hospitality, sense of humor and love of animals. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, helping others and traveling. Her most favorite travel adventure was living in Singapore for 13 months with her family. She loved her “granddog” Millie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Margaret Poyer, Marion McAdams, Eleanor Ogle, Dr. Pauline Brimmer and James Onuffer; her special friend, John Terry of James City; daughter-in-law Sherise Bray; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Barbara is survived by two sons, Daniel Himes of Bradford and Steven Himes of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; a daughter, Susan Niemann of Ocala, Fla.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Fran Carloni of Bradford; several granddaughters; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Alan Poyer of Bradford and Carol Ogle of Pooler, Ga.; and longtime dear close friends, Tish Kelly and Gerry Pehonsky of Bradford.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 10, 2025) at St. Bernard Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Walk, senior associate pastor, as celebrant. At the family’s request there will be no visitation. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
