Cheatle and Holjencin Jump to Lead at Rolfe Beagle Club’s Statewide Coyote and Crow Hunt

JOHNSONBURG – Adam Cheatle brought in a 32.6# female coyote on Sept. 2 to jump into the lead for the largest female coyote at Rolfe Beagle Club’s Statewide, 10-Day, Coyote and Crow Hunt. Cheatle was hunting on private lands in Elk County near midnight, and after being in his stand for only five minutes the coyote came out of the woods into the field.

“I hadn’t even started to call yet,” Cheatle said. He harvests predators with a .223 rifle with a thermal scope, and normally uses a Fox Pro electronic call.

On Sept. 3, Sean Holjencin brought in a beautiful 41.2# blond, male coyote into Rolfe’s weigh-in station, the largest coyote brought in to date for the 10-day hunt.

“I was at a cook-out near Bear Creek in western Elk County and two coyotes circled the camp around noon. I went back out around 5 p.m. and got caught in that small downpour but, as soon as it quit raining, I started calling. This coyote came in at minute 47 of the call. I don’t normally call that long but it was worth the wait,” Holjencin said.

Holjencin shoots a 6.5 Creedmoor with a thermal scope and uses a Fox Pro electronic call.

Weigh-in is at 6 p.m. every day over the ten days of the Rolfe Beagle Club hunt, thru Sept. 6. Hunters are reminded that Rolfe Beagle Club’s Predator Hunt or Trap will take place over two weekends in February.
