If Trump tries for third term, wrestling icon might lay the smack down
(TNS) — Who do you think will be the Democratic nominee for president in 2028?
It doesn’t matter what you think!
That’s right, it’s the Rock folks. Wrestling fans might get the opening above and the rest of you … well, apologies.
To clarify for those folks, WWE and acting star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has now clawed past Kamala Harris in the odds to become the 2028 Democratic nominee for president, according to betting website Polymarket.
Now, all things considered, the Rock currently has just a 5.6% chance of getting the nod while Polymarket has Harris at 5%.
And, it should also be noted that “The Final Boss” has not given any indication that he has any interest in running for president.
But if he should make the decision to give politics a go … well, he’s beloved, but Polymarket suggests he has some ground to make up if he hopes to actually become the Democratic nominee.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is currently listed as the leader for the nomination with a 32-percent chance. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is currently second with an 11-percent change, and Pete Buttigieg is third with a 6-percent chance.
“Name recognition goes a long way in politics, and Dwayne Johnson surely has a lot of it,” Heath Brown an associate professor of public policy at City University of New York, told Newsweek. “There are several other qualities which also make for a good candidate, and there are numerous candidates with many of those presidential qualities who we will see as prime contenders in 2028.”
Trump is not eligible to run for a third term according to the Constitution, but the president has openly flirted with the idea and currently has “Trump 2028” merchandise for sale.
