After a scoreless first half, Ridgway used a fumble recovery to inspire a touchdown and maintained that momentum to power to a 21-8 win over Smethport Friday.

Leading Smethport was QB Mason Swanson, who was 13/18 in completed passes and had 90 yards passing. Smethport had 60 yards rushing.

“This was a very physical game. We knew it was going to be when Ridgway came to town. We are hoping to build off these first games and go into Cameron County next week to start our region competition.”

Smethport’s first drive of the third quarter ended in a fumble, which Ridgway recovered and took downfield for the Elkers’ first score of the game. Smethport’s Grant Holmberg blocked the extra point, making the score Ridgway 6-0.

Ridgway scored again later in the quarter and followed the touchdown with a successful two-point conversion, putting them ahead 14-0.

Ridgway’s final touchdown came in the fourth, with a successful PAT to make the score 21-0.

The Hubbers scored on a four-yard run from Aiden Tanner and saw Swanson find Maddox Dickerson for a successful two-point conversion, giving Smethport 8 points and creating what became the final at Ridgway 21-8 as the clock wound down to zero.
