A century of service — 100 years United
The United Way of the Bradford Area announced the kickoff of its 2025 Annual Campaign, marking a historic milestone: the organization’s 100th year of service.
With this year’s theme, “A Century of Service – 100 Years United,” the United Way reflects on a century of neighbors helping neighbors while looking ahead to an even stronger future.
The 2025 campaign has set a goal of $300,000 in Bradford, $18,000 in Port Allegany, and $10,000 in Smethport to ensure vital programs and services continue to meet the needs of local individuals and families.
Leading this year’s effort as campaign chairs are Ashlee and Jeff Puglio, who share a deep commitment to the Bradford community.
“I was born and raised in Bradford, and have been fortunate to live and work here since Jeff and I started our family,” Ashlee shared. “Jeff was born in Central New York, and his family relocated to Bradford in the late 1980s, making it their home ever since. He has served as a chemistry teacher and football coach at the high school since 2008. I am an occupational therapist, and after many years working at SMART Rehab at BRMC, I transitioned into a teaching role in the Master’s OT program at St. Bonaventure University.”
The Puglios expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to lead the campaign during such a historic year. “We chose to stay in Bradford because of our family and the strong sense of community,” Ashlee and Jeff said. “We feel lucky to raise our children, Max and Lucy,
surrounded by loved ones in such a welcoming town. That’s why it means so much to us to be asked to serve as this year’s United Way Campaign Chairs. Organizations like the United Way make such a meaningful difference in the lives of people across our region. Through our involvement in groups like the Zonta Club, we’ve gained an even deeper appreciation for its mission and have looked for new ways to give back. As Campaign Chairs, our goals are to support existing events in any way we can and to help plan meaningful activities that will celebrate the 100th year of this campaign.”
The United Way of the Bradford Area traces its roots back to December 15, 1925, when it was first established as the Community Chest under the leadership of Board President W.H. Dennis. Over the past century, the organization has grown and evolved, but its mission has remained the same: to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities.
“This campaign is about more than just a fundraising goal,” said Executive Director Sarah Lonzi “It’s about celebrating 100 years of neighbors supporting neighbors, and ensuring the United Way is here for the next 100.”
As the organization enters its centennial year, the United Way of the Bradford Area invites community members, businesses, and organizations to join in the celebration by supporting the campaign and the programs that strengthen the Bradford, Port Allegany, and Smethport communities.
