Programs set for weekend at Sinnemahoning
AUSTIN — Sinnemahoning State Park has educational events planned for the next few weekends.
From 8 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the campground amphitheater, the movie The Incredible Journey of the Butterflies will be shown. Learn about the Monarch butterfly’s long migration down to Mexico.
From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday will be Ride the Rail Trail, beginning at the Wildlife Center. Enjoy a guided ride through the park on the Lowlands Trail. Bring your own bike or check one out of the park’s loaner bikes. A park educator will lead the trip. Pre-registration is required to use one of the park’s bikes.
From 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, an introduction to archery will be held at the Wildlife Center. Have you ever wanted to give archery a try? This program will cover the basics of archery, including bow types, shooting form, and safety. Open to participants ages 10 and older, this program requires pre-registration.
From 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, at the campground amphitheater will be Trivia Night. Looking for a fun activity on Labor Day Weekend? Come on down to Sinnemahoning State Park and play trivia. Find out who knows S’more about nature, history and state parks! This program is open to all ages and is a great family activity. A prize will be awarded to the winning team.
From 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday will be Monarch Watch Butterfly tagging. From the Wildlife Center Classroom head out into the park to catch, tag and release monarch butterflies. Aerial nets provided. Wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared to walk through fields. All ages welcome.
From 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday will be campfire cooking at the Wildlife Center. Tired of the same old campfire food? Join a park educator and explore an exciting new recipe that you can make using cast iron cookware and a campfire. Pre-registration is required for this program.
On Monday, pontoon tours of the Stevenson Reservoir will be held at 9 and 10:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. At the Lake Day Use Area, join park staff for a relaxing and informative tour around the lake, as we cruise the shoreline of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir in search of wildlife. Group size is limited. To reserve a seat, please pre-register. Registration is not required but is strongly recommended.
