Workshop on songbirds at Sizerville
EMPORIUM — An educator workshop on Pennsylvania songbirds is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at Sizerville State Park.
PA Songbirds is an environmental education curriculum that uses activities centered around birds of Pennsylvania to allow children to explore English language arts, research math, ecosystems, ecological concepts, and more.
Earn 4.5 Act 48 hours while experiencing hands-on activities related to PA Songbirds that help develop awareness, investigative skills, curiosity and environmental knowledge. Participants will receive the updated K-8 Teacher’s Guide which features more than 40 lessons, pre-made student sheets, and organizers that sort each lesson by topic and grade level. This workshop is open to all educators: school teachers, naturalists, homeschool parents, Scout leaders and others.
Workshop guests will also participate in a morning bird-banding session. Weather permitting, certified bird banders will take the group on a tour of the mist nets, discuss the importance of bird banding, and band live birds caught on site.
Bring a brown-bag lunch and dress for outdoor fun. Registration and the $15 workshop fee, payable over the phone at (814) 486-5605 or in the park office from 8 to 4 p.m. daily, is required by Sept. 1.
