HS Roundup: Bradford Tennis shuts out J’burg; ECC, Owls Golf record wins

Bradford 5, Johnsonburg 0
JOHNSONBURG – The Bradford Lady Owls Tennis team picked up their first win of the season, defeating Johnsonburg 5-0 Thursday. The Owls were led by senior Emmy Kemick who won at First Singles 6-0, 6-2 over Jenna Johnson.
Jackie Sipko won the match of the day at Second Singles. After dropping the first set 7-5, she came back and won the next two sets 6-1, 6-2 over Chloe Baker.
Lily Hawk won at Third Singles 6-0, 6-0 over Elizabeth Lowry.
Bradford also won both doubles matches as juniors Brooke Komidar and Kasey Poe won First Doubles 8-1. The freshman duo of Lucy Spehar and Eliana Keller completed the sweep for the Lady Owls winning Second Doubles, 8-4.
Bradford has their first home match of the season on Monday at 2:30 p.m., hosting ECC.
ECC 3, Punxsutawney 2
PUNXSUTAWNEY – ECC played a very good girls varsity team at Punxsutawney today with ECC claiming a close 3-2 victory Thursday.
Anna Biondi fell to Olivia Toven 6-2, 6-4.
“Biondi showed up to play and had lengthy rallies with point rallies up to seventeen shots but succumbed, this being her third match this week,” ECC Coach Michael Jeselnick said.
Audree Meyer lost to Addie London in a three set marathon match 7-5, 2-6, 1-6. Arianna Gurosik won over Olivia Smith 6-2, 6-1.
ECC swept the doubles today and the overall match with both wins. ECC’s Jolene Rippey/Lilly O’Connor won 7-6(7-3) over Lilly Gigliottie/Emma Young. Emma Repko/Ava Corl bested Chucks Sailor Pack/Zoey Resamok 6-1, 6-2.
Boys Golf
Bradford 170, Ridgway 178
The Bradford Owls boys golf team defeated Ridgway 170 to 178. Medalist honors went to Tarren Reese with a 38. He had 1 birdie, 5 pars and 3 bogeys.
“This is Tarren’s 3rd time in the 30’s this season. He is playing very well right now,” Bradford coach Travis Faulkner said.
Ean Wright shot a 43 with 3 pars and 5 bogeys.
“Ean started his round with 3 straight pars and played solid the last 6 holes. Daniel Marasco shot a 44. He had 3 pars and 4 bogeys. He had a couple of bad breaks or his score would be a lot lower,” Faulkner said. “Rounding out our scoring was Jamin Bell with a 45.Jamin has been battling an injury but fought through to help the team. He had 2 pars and 5 bogeys in his round. Mason Close shot 48 and Maverick Smith shot 52.
“Those guys are working hard at practice and getting better. This was our second lowest team score of the year. We continue to improve our game.”
The Owls (3-1) are at Brockway on Aug. 26.
