Public urged to share info related to boy’s death
SMETHPORT — To assist in the investigation of the Aug. 14 death of 2-year-old Oakley Hedlund of Bradford, members of the public are asked to provide any information they have to police.
McKean County District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer said that, in addition to her office, Bradford City Police and McKean County detectives have received tips that have been or are being pursued. She urged the public to submit all tips to police by calling (814) 887-4911 and speaking directly to an officer.
Chief Mike Ward and Detective Mark Deluca are the primary investigators on the case.
“If you have any information about this child — including his care, circumstances surrounding his death or injuries, or anything else related to his welfare — you are urged to call,” Shaffer said.
The boy’s father, 32-year-old Tyler Prescott, was charged with four felonies — three counts of aggravated assault and one of endangering the welfare of a child — in the incident. Shaffer indicated at Prescott’s arraignment that she expects to increase the charges against Prescott to include homicide. Prescott was jailed on $1 million bail.
The initial preliminary hearing conference that had been scheduled for Thursday has been continued by the judge to a full preliminary hearing to be held Sept. 12 at the McKean County Courthouse.
Additional charges are pending the results of the investigation, including the results of the autopsy. The investigation is ongoing and all tips will be followed up, Shaffer said.
