St. Marys golfers return Six Letterwinners
This year the Dutchmen’s roster consists of 21 golfers with only 6 players returning from last year, three of which were District qualifiers and a State qualifier. The roster includes 7 freshmen, 8 sophomores, 3 juniors and 3 seniors.
“Last year we had a very successful season that culminated with 6 individual District qualifiers and a team that qualified” remarked head Coach Bob Bauer. “This is my seventh year as head coach, and I am always impressed with the caliber of golfers that come out each year. I have 15 new faces this year including 3 Juniors and 1 Senior. Most of the new players are already starter material and there will be some good competition to see who will play each week.
“Our workhorses will be returning Seniors Lou Nedzinski and Jayce Walter and Sophomore Kai Caskey. These three will be supported by newcomers Cameron Coudriet, Landyn Rippy, Greyson Meyer, JJ Hanslovan along with returning Jackson Meyer and Dakota Cousins, although any of the other golfers could easily move up to a starting position.”
The other returning letterwinners are Dominic Muccio and Parker Saline. Rounding out the Dutch roster are Freshmen Nolan Benjamin, CJ Cunningham, JJ Hanslovan, Luke Vollmer, Colton Wehler, and Peyton Wendel; Sophomores Adam Beimel. Wyatt Thompson, and Jay Vollmer; and Juniors Joel Beimel and Carter Hoffman.
“This year is our first in the newly formed Central D-9 league and the format for our matches has changed slightly. Rather than playing eight golfers and counting five, we now play six and count four,” Bauer said. “This will make the competition a little tighter but also limits the number of golfers that we see action.
“From what I’ve so far this year, competition in the Central league will be very good. The area’s teams have some very talented players.”
