HS Roundup: St. Marys defeats Bradford, 5-0
GIRLS TENNIS
ST. MARYS – St. Marys swept Bradford 5-0 in girls’ tennis action Monday.
“We beat a tough team by playing smart tennis tonight. The Dutch Ladies stepped up into their new roles and played some determined, high percentage tennis,” St. Marys coach Tim Henry said. “All singles girls played with grit and determination to clinch the match before the doubles got on court. Sara, Isabelle and Izzy are quick learners and from the results tonight, the group of them look to set the tone for all our matches.
“In the two doubles matches our girls struggled a bit more with consistency, but that is the fast paced nature of that game. With some minor adjustments they responded well to the challenge the Bradford girls were presenting them. It was a good effort by both teams. We are glad to get the season off with a win over a good team.”

BOYS GOLF
BRADFORD 174, DCC 182
The Bradford Owls boys golf team defeated Dubois Central Catholic 174-182. We are now 2-2 on the season and 2-1 in the league.
“Tarren Reese shot a 2 over par 37 today, His best high school round at The Penn Hills Club. His 7 pars and 2 bogeys were the reason he played so well. He putted well with good iron shots,” Bradford Coach Travis Faulkner said. “Daniel Marasco shot a 42 with a birdie on hole #5. He also had 3 pars and 3 bogeys. Danny’s round was his best of the year for him so far. Mason Close shot 47 and Ean Wright shot a 48. Both guys had 3 bogeys. They weren’t happy with their rounds but we see improvements in their game.
“Adam Leet shot 51 and Lucas Sokoly shot a 53. Those 2 are on the verge of shooting lower scores. We had 7 Junior Varsity golfers on the course today. Each played 9 holes. The experience they are getting will help us in the future.”
The Owls return to action Thursday at Ridgway at 3:30 p.m.
