PA Lottery presents check to Warren Co. grandmother
ERIE — Officials from the Pennsylvania Lottery presented a commemorative check to Nicole Walter, a Warren County woman who won more than $2 million on the online game MONOPOLY Progressive Jackpots. The check presentation was held at the Lottery Area Office in Erie.
Walter said that what started as a casual gaming session with her boyfriend turned into a life-changing moment after she won $2,021,096.49. This is the largest internet instant prize won from this popular MONOPOLY-themed online Pennsylvania Lottery game.
“I was playing PA Lottery games on my phone, and he was playing on his phone, and he said, ‘Hey, I like the Monopoly one, let’s try it,’” Walter recalled. “Then my screen went blank and popped up $2 million. I was shocked — I didn’t even say anything at first.”
Walter’s story is one of extraordinary resilience. A 42-year-old breast cancer survivor, she said she was diagnosed in 2023 and recently completed radiation treatment. She also said she survived a heart attack and is now focused on healing and looking toward the future.
A proud grandmother of 10, Walter said she plans to use the winnings to renovate her farmhouse, a property that holds sentimental value. “It was sold to us by a really good friend,” she shared.
Walter said she has been playing the Pennsylvania Lottery online since it launched in 2018, often drawn by the convenience of online play. “We enjoy it — and this time, it really paid off,” she said.
In addition to her love for PA Lottery online games, Walter has a passion for racecars and said she even used to drive them. Now, with new opportunities on the horizon, she’s eager to invest in the home she loves and continue building memories with her family.
“We are thrilled to award this prize to Nicole Walter. This is a reminder that every day the Pennsylvania Lottery is awarding life-changing prizes to Pennsylvanians throughout the Commonwealth,” said Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne. “It’s also important to remember that Pennsylvania Lottery proceeds support programs that directly benefit older Pennsylvanians. We’re proud that Nicole’s win not only changes her life but also helps fund vital services for our seniors.”
“Nicole’s incredible story reminds us that life can change in an instant, and we’re honored to be part of such meaningful moments for our players across Warren County and beyond. We’re also proud of the work we do every day that benefits older Pennsylvanians through vital life-sustaining programs,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko.
