Fair fun, fiscal moves, fresh appointments
SMETHPORT — With fair week in full swing and local creatives earning statewide recognition, McKean County commissioners met Tuesday to celebrate community wins and approve a slate of county business.
Commissioner Carol Duffy said, “I’d like to remind everyone it’s the week of the McKean County Fair. They had nice opening ceremonies Sunday, a parade (Monday) night and multiple events scheduled throughout the week. The weather looks like it’s going to be good, so everyone enjoy!”
Commissioner Chairman Tom Kreiner noted three McKean County winners from the PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship’s dinner and awards held in Bellefonte in late July.
“We’d like to congratulate three groups from McKean County,” Kreiner said. “Awarded Artisan of the Year was Elk & Walnut Creative Corner out of Kane, Event of the Year was Art in the Wilds in Kane and Great Places (Champion Award) was Lynn Hall in Port Allegany, which is quite a neat place.”
During the human resources update, commissioners shared that leaves became effective Aug. 8 for adult probation officer Michael DeLuca and county detective Linda Close. Todd Erickson was named a county detective, while Mark Wilcox was named first assistant warden and Josh Black second assistant. Close and Erickson are both retired from Bradford City Police Department. Erickson most recently served with the McKean County Sheriff’s Office.
Under the 2022 fiscal year Community Development Block Grant program budget, the Old Jail Museum ADA budget of $60,000 was reduced to $33,790.10 and the LMI Housing demolition and parking budget of $34,863 was increased to $61,072.90.
Liquid fuels aid applications were approved for Bradford Township, $10,007.74; Lafayette Township, $4,297.25; Eldred Borough, $1,397.64; Hamlin Township, $1,777.35; and Annin Township, $5,137.16.
Bids were received from Western New York Glass & Door for $56,148.33 and Foster Brook Glass & Mirror LLC, $49,390 for windows. Commissioners moved to accept Foster Brook Glass’s low bid and approved the award unanimously.
A formal partnership was approved between commissioners, the Domestic Relations Section of the county’s Court of Common Pleas and the state Department of Human Services to carry out child support enforcement services under Title IV-D of the Social Security Act — a federal law that helps states collect support from noncustodial parents.
Commissioners also approved the 2026 holiday calendar for submission to and coordination with the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC) as well as an agreement between Marco and McKean County Children and Youth Services (CYS) for $564.37 per month for 60 months. An assignment contract with Gabriel Roeder, Smith & Co. (GRS) to assume actuarial services and related consulting from Korn Ferry was given the go-ahead.
Appointed to three-year terms on the McKean County Department of Human Services Advisory Board were Angie Eckstrom, Brian Larson, Jayne Peterson and Kreiner, who abstained from the vote. The term runs Aug. 1, 2025, through July 31, 2028.
DHS agreements were renewed with Amie Peck, CI; Ronald Tanner-Constable, transports; Evergreen Elm, Futures Rehabilitation Center and YWCA Bradford, mental health/intellectual disabilities; and Ramsbottom Center Inc., Community Residential Rehabilitation-Host Home services.
Commissioners will meet again at 10 a.m. Aug. 26.
