According to the criminal complaint, at 11:35 a.m. Aug. 9, state police were dispatched to a vehicle accident at 6975 Route 59, Lafayette Township — FCI McKean. A caller from the prison told the emergency operator that the driver of the vehicle, Harewood, was suspected to be attempting to drop off drugs outside the prison facility, and had begun to run on foot from the scene of the accident through the parking lot of MSL Oil and Gas.
State police set up a perimeter around the accident, where a Nissan Rogue had gone into a ditch, and began looking for Harewood. About 100 feet into the woods, the trooper heard noises and saw a person matching the description given of the driver involved in the crash, and took her into custody, the complaint stated.
Harewood refused to answer questions. A search of her vehicle found two backpacks with contraband allegedly intending to be delivered to FCI-McKean, including cell phones, chargers and an unknown white powder in baggies. The investigation determined the items were intended for inmate Jameika Evans, the complaint stated.
Harewood was arraigned before District Judge David Engman in Kane and remanded to jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. She is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Thursday.
