Hanley gets first ever Hidden Valley Win; Little Doubles up
CLEARFIELD – Brett Hanley of Morrisdale won his first career Hidden Valley Speedway Little’s Drive In Four Cylinder Feature Friday night, while Clearfield native Gary Little “doubled up” by winning the regular feature and the make up feature in the Semi Lates.
Other repeat winners include: Jimmy Holden of Tiona in the Small Block Modifieds and Eric Lucas of Clearfield in the Pure Stocks.
Dylan Fenton and Jeremy Ohl led the Semi Late Feature to Sam McClellan’s green flag for the start of the regular feature, with Fenton taking the lead and Ohl sitting second. Zach Gustafson ran third with Justin Owens in fourth. By the second lap, Gary Little moved into the fourth spot from his sixth place start. Ohl was often beside Fenton looking for the lead and Little was picking his way to the front. Two quick cautions on laps six and seven regrouped the field, and Ohl pitted with mechanical issues.
On the restart Fenton continued to set the pace, with Little taking over second after Ohl pitted, and on lap nine, Little took the lead and a lap later, newcomer Devin Frey dropped Fenton to third and set his sights on Little. As the laps dwindled down, Frey was nipping away at Little’s lead, and in the closing laps, he was door-to-door many times for the lead, as Little used the outside and Frey the inside, but when those double checkered flags waved, it was Little taking his fifth win of the season. Frey was a close second, Fenton held on to third, Gustafson was fourth and Jeremy Lippert was fifth. Heat wins went to Fenton and Ohl.
The Holdens brought the Small Block Modifieds to the start, with Jimmy on the pole and son Hayden on the outside pole, with Jimmy taking the lead at the start. While Jimmy led the event from start to finish, it was a great battle for second, with Trent Ogden and Haydey Holden swapping second several times throughout the 20 laps. When the final lap was scored it was all Jimmy Holden taking the win over his son, Hayden, Ogden was a close third with Levi Picard holding off Craig Casher for fourth. The Holdens won the heats.
The Pure Stocks saw Eric Lucas out run Austin Fenton at the start, and while he may have led from start to finish, his win wasn’t easy. Tim Steis was running a close second, and he got a little too close to Lucas and the leader spun after contact. This would put Steis in the rear as Lucas continued to lead. The Mitch Stiles took over second and he pressured the leader, but Lucas was determined to grab his second win of the season. Stiles held on to second, Steis worked back to third with Ryan Shaffner and Fenton completing the top five. Shaffner won the heat.
The Little’s Drive In Four Cylinders saw Brett Hanley get off the line before fellow front row starter Justin Williamson, and Hanley led the event from flag to flag, with Williamson a close second and Zack Frantz finished third. Ryan Lippert and Allen Robison rounded out the top five. Heat wins went to Frantz, Williamson and Lippert.
In the make up Semi Late feature from June 27, Gary Little led Justin Owens from green to checkered for the win, as Dylan Fenton ran third, with Dan Gill fourth and Jeremy Lippert was fifth.
