Paint the town Red and Black
Local businesses are once again invited to take part in the annual Paint the Town Red and Black event, which will run from Sept. 1 through Sept. 26. The spirited fundraiser, organized by the Bradford Football boosters, rallies the community in support of all Bradford’s fall sports seniors and teams.
Now in its third year, Paint the Town has quickly grown into a beloved early fall tradition. This year, the event will fulfill another meaningful purpose. All proceeds will directly support the Bob South Legacy Scholarship Fund. Established in January, the scholarship honors the memory of Bob South, whose decades of dedication, encouragement and unwavering support made him a fixture in Bradford athletics.
For the month of September, participating businesses will transform their storefronts with Bradford High School’s signature red and black colors. Each business will feature one senior athlete in their display. The goal is not only to brighten downtown but also to showcase the faces of this year’s senior class, giving them an extra moment in the spotlight.
The boosters will share photos of the displays on their social media page, where the friendly competition really kicks in. Voting jars will be provided to each business and community members can cast their ballots by dropping in cash. Each dollar counts as one vote. Fans can also vote in person during the Homecoming game Sept. 26. At the end of the night, the most spirited storefront will be crowned champion, earning a trophy, bragging rights and plenty of hometown pride.
Money raised directly benefits the Bob South Legacy Scholarship Fund, which provides assistance to graduating seniors who participate in any fall sport. This will include football, girls’ tennis, boys’ and girls’ golf, boys’ and girls’ cross country, boys’ and girls’ soccer, volleyball, cheerleading and band. Applications for the scholarship are available at the Bradford Area High School guidance office.
This year’s scholarship winner was Joey Caruso. Caruso will continue his education at St. Bonaventure University, where he intends to study accounting.
