Pitt-Bradford Arts plans family-friendly season
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has planned a year of family-friendly arts programming highlighted by an illusionist, music and “The Nutcracker.”
All performances will be held in the Bromeley Family Theater in Blaisdell Hall on the Pitt-Bradford campus. Tickets for mainstage events are $20 for the public and are $5 to $10 for all students (pre-K to college). The full schedule and ticketing information can be found at upb.pitt.edu/theARTS.
The season opens at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 with “Magic Rocks,” featuring internationally known illusionist Leon Etienne. Etienne, who has wowed audiences on “America’s Got Talent,” “Penn & Teller: Fool Us,” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” brings a high-energy mix of grand illusions, sleight of hand and rock music to the stage. The show is a fast-paced, fun and interactive experience for kids, teens and adults alike.
At 3 p.m. Dec. 7, Pitt-Bradford welcomes back New York Theatre Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker Ballet,” a one-hour, family-friendly reimagining of the holiday classic.
Set in the Art Nouveau era of 1907, this lively version is filled with visual surprises, including a luminous owl soaring above the audience, mice in polka dots and dancers wielding oversized chopsticks. The performance is danced to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s beloved score and features innovative choreography, theatrical expressiveness and a beautifully imaginative set.
The season concludes at 7 p.m. May 19 with a patriotic celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. The Southern Tier Brass will perform a vibrant program of American music, offering a spirited and family-friendly tribute to the nation’s milestone. Discounted tickets will be available for veterans and active-duty service members.
In addition to evening performances, Pitt-Bradford Arts continues to offer a robust lineup of free daytime programming throughout the academic year. Events include school matinees, musical performances, theater productions, visual art exhibitions, and Saturday Morning Art Workshops all held on campus and open to the public. Details and schedules are available on the Pitt-Bradford Arts website, upb.pitt.edu/TheArts.
