Area Anglers headed to Dunkirk for National Walleye Tour Final Stop
DUNKIRK, N.Y. — Several local anglers will be participating in the final stop of the National Walleye Tour in Dunkirk Harbor Aug 7-8.
Those anglers include Dylan Nussbaum, Andy Travis, David Hoisington, Grant Smith, Shawn Disney, and Chad Yohe. Co-anglers include Matt Cobb, Chris Cobb, Scott Hoteling and Edward Acklin.
The Dunkirk stop is the final of four on the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Walleye Tour, sponsored by Progressive. The Dunkirk marina will be closed to the public between 5 and 7 a.m. and 2 and 4 p.m. both Thursday and Friday for tournament traffic. Vehicle traffic will be prohibited both days as well.
There will be 74 anglers and 74 co-anglers competing in the two-day event. Fish will be cut at the Chadwick Bay Marina fishing cleaning station from 2:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. on both tournament days. Free fish will be available to those who bring a cooler with ice for transport.
The last time the event made its way to Dunkirk was the Championship in 2022.
According to Tournament Director Jeff Kelm, the community’s welcoming atmosphere and strategic location make it ideal to host the event, particularly at this time during the Lake Erie Walleye migration. The tournament boundaries include the NY waters of Lake Erie and any connected rivers, creeks, and canals.
