Heavy storms force Steelers to Saint Vincent gym, postponing first padded practice of training camp
(TNS) —Cars were lined up along Route 30 at noon Tuesday afternoon for the much-anticipated first practice in pads of Steelers training camp. The fans must now wait until Wednesday, after the Steelers moved practice into the gymnasium at Saint Vincent College.
The Steelers are scheduled to practice again at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday with no rain in the forecast. The Steelers were not expecting the heavy rains that soaked the grass at Chuck Noll Field on campus. They went through their walk-through on the field around 1:30 and were set to begin practice before they were sent back to the locker room.
The first practice in pads is one of the highlights of training camp. The Steelers stage many competition drills, including the backs on backers drill and 1-on-1 pass rush drills between the offensive and defensive linemen.
The practice inside the gymnasium was not open to the public.
