Programs set at Kinzua Bridge, Bendigo
MOUNT JEWETT — Kinzua Bridge State Park Complex will offer a variety of programs in August.
Programs may be postponed or cancelled in the event of adverse weather conditions. For more information on a park program, call the park office at (814) 778-5467.
From noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 2 and 3 will be DiscoverE Weekend at Bendigo State Park in Wilcox. A weekend of outdoor activities is planned. Start by stopping by the DiscoverE table to pick up an activity booklet, then complete pages on your own while spending time in the park. Attend a scheduled park program, such as archery, birding, fishing or nature journaling to have your book signed by a staff member. Then return to the pop-up table to receive your DiscoverE certificate and badge.
Activities are recommended for ages 4 to 16, with the exception of archery where participants must be 8 years of age or older. For more information on DiscoverE Weekend and scheduled activities, call the park office at (814) 778-5467.
At Kinzua Bridge State Park, from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10 will be a View from the Valley hike. Celebrate the temporary re-opening of the skywalk by taking a guided hike into the valley to see the tower wreckage up close. Start by joining our staff near the observation deck and descend on a difficult hike on the Kinzua Creek Trail. View historical photos, hear the history, and learn insights to what caused the bridge’s collapse in 2003. Participants are advised to prepare for a difficult hike by bringing water, wearing closed toed shoes, and dressing for the weather.
At 11 a.m. Aug. 10 will be an archery program. Practice your archery skills in a safe and fun environment. We will cover the necessary safety procedures of shooting a bow, as well as the technical skills involved in hitting a target. Target and bows provided. This program is free and open to the public. Meet on the eastern side of the building.
