McKean County K9s earn certifications
McKean County K9s Dixie, Olive and Roxy recently completed course requirements for advancements in mantrailing, District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer announced.

Dixie and Olive, along with their handler, Ruth Mayes, completed Advanced Mantrailing through the National Network of Canine Detection Services. Roxy and her handler, Rod Johnson, earned certification by the National Police Bloodhound Association for mantrailing to work as a mantrailing team, Shaffer explained.

The skilled dogs are part of the Tracking Unit of the McKean County detective bureau’s K9 Unit with the district attorney’s office. They train throughout the year to keep their skills sharp and are frequently called to assist first responders. The dogs and their handlers are often seen at area events such as the McKean County Fair and National Night Out.

Shaffer also reported that Juxsyn, a K9 with the McKean County Detective Bureau, and handler Kelly Werner attended training at the Center for Forensic Training and Education in Dayton, Ohio, from July 11 to 13.
