Bradford Township VFD responds to fire call at Maple Manor
Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department had two calls in a row Thursday — the second with the potential to be far worse than it was.
At 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Bradford Township was dispatched for a tree down on West Washington Street past Marilla Reservoir, near the top of the hill. As Chief Dan Burkhouse and crew were leaving the scene, at 2:04 p.m., McKean County dispatch advised that they were taking a call for a possible fire at 139 Minard Run Road — Maple Manor, an inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility.
When a firefighter arrived, the building had been evacuated. The fireman entered the building to check conditions and encountered strong odor and smoke conditions. Tower 1 from Bradford City was requested, and three other stations were put on standby.
Firefighters searched the building and found burned electrical components with an A/C unit in a crawl space.
Bradford Township Police assisted with traffic control.
The scene was released to maintenance staff and occupants were allowed to reenter the building at 3 p.m.
