Potter County’s ‘Seeds of Hope’ announces match challenge
SAYRE — The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers (CFTT) shared the overwhelming success of the Potter County Seeds of Hope event, held June 19 at Moon’s Big Red Barn.
Despite a few raindrops, the atmosphere was electric as community members gathered to celebrate the spirit and strength of Potter County.
The announcement was made of the Potter County Summer Match Challenge, a generous $10,000 dollar-for-dollar match for donations made to the Potter County Impact Fund between June 19 and Sept. 22, 2025.
The fund was established to address the county’s most pressing local needs, providing flexible resources to support initiatives that strengthen the community. This match challenge comes courtesy of Wanda Shirk, a longtime resident of Potter County and passionate advocate for community philanthropy. Many may remember Shirk from her time teaching English at Northern Potter High School or from her appearance on the hit TV show Survivor, but her true legacy lies in her unwavering dedication to her hometown.
She believes deeply in the potential of Potter County and the power of giving back.
“I am passionate about giving back, about giving, in every way possible, to the greatest extent possible. Happily, when we create a ‘culture of giving,’ we can experience great joy and purpose in life,” said Shirk. “I hope I can inspire others to give and join me in leaving a legacy in and for Potter County.”
The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers invites all community members, local businesses, and supporters near and far to take advantage of this exciting opportunity to double their impact and help continue sowing seeds of hope across Potter County.
