Elk County sex offender sentenced to state prison
HARRISBURG — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that a convicted sex offender from Elk County has been sentenced to state prison for repeatedly violating probation by failing to complete sex offender treatment, viewing pornography and leaving the state without permission.
The Office of Attorney General’s Child Predator Section prosecuted the recent probation violations against 59-year-old Jeffrey Cauvel, who was originally convicted in 2017 of possessing and distributing child pornography.
An Elk County Judge recently sentenced Cauvel to 2 to 5 years in state prison for the violations of probation, which were: failure to complete sex offender treatment, unauthorized internet usage, viewing adult pornography, leaving the state without permission, drug use and unsupervised contact with minors.
Prosecutors argued that Cauvel was discharged from treatment due to unsupervised contact with minors.
“Convicted sex offenders are required to abide by court-ordered conditions, to promote rehabilitation and ensure the safety of the public,” Sunday said. “This individual has refused to complete sex offender treatment as well as a number of other conditions. I commend our partners with probation and parole for assisting in this recent sentencing, which should send a message that such violations cannot and will not be ignored.”
Cauvel previously violated probation in 2023 when he was discharged from sex offender treatment. He was re-sentenced then to an additional term of probation.
