Jim Kelly asking for prayers for his family: ‘This road has brought us to our knees’
Hall of Fame quarterback and Pennsylvania native Jim Kelly is asking for prayers for his family after his daughter, Erin, gave birth to a son last week.
Erin and her husband, Parker, welcomed their first child into the world last week. Unfortunately, his birth came with “unexpected medical complications,” Jim Kelly announced in a statement on Instagram.
On Tuesday, Kelly provided an update on how his grandson is doing, revealing that he had a procedure scheduled for Wednesday morning.
“Little Brave Bean’s procedure is scheduled for 7am tomorrow morning,“ Jim Kelly posted Tuesday night. ”He is so strong and courageous. And his life has already changed our lives forever.
“We are standing on the unshakable truth that God is the One who created our strong and courageous grandson…the One who formed him, knows him, and loves him even more than we do. We are holding on to every promise He has spoken in His Word — because even in this heart-wrenching pain, we believe HE is faithful.”
Jim Kelly did not reveal his grandson’s name because Erin and Parker “still want to announce him to the world.”
Kelly’s statement continued, stating that he is leaning on his faith during this difficult time.
“This road has brought us to our knees… There have been moments when tears wouldn’t stop. Moments when all we could do was cry out in anger, anguish, and pain. Moments when we lifted our hands in worship with fragile faith and moments when we were silent, because there were no words left to say,“ Kelly said. But even here — especially here — I know JESUS is near.“
Finally, Kelly asked that everyone “PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY!!” for his grandson and his family.
He also shared a message to others who are going through a difficult time.
“I know we’re not the only ones going through a heart wrenching situation right now,” he said. “Life and what we hope it to be can drastically change in an instant and we just want you to know that we’re sharing this because we want to remind you too, that YOU ARE NOT ALONE.”
Jim Kelly grew up in Pennsylvania, before attending the University of Miami.
He starred in the USFL for a couple of seasons, then spent 11 years in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills.
Kelly was named a Pro Bowler five times and earned multiple All-Pro honors. He led the NFL in passing touchdowns in 1991, and his No. 12 jersey is retired by the Bills.
He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
