Detours for Johnsonburg bridge project start today
CLEARFIELD — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that detours will be in place beginning today, as rehabilitation work starts on a bridge spanning the West Branch of the Clarion River on Main Street (Route 4007) in Johnsonburg Borough.
This project will improve ride quality, extend service life, and improve the overall condition rating of the bridge.
PennDOT will implement two separate detours around this project: one for passenger vehicles, and one for commercial vehicle traffic. Passenger vehicles will follow Routes 4005 (Clarion Road), 1009 (Center Street), and U.S. Route 219 for a detour length of approximately one mile. Commercial vehicles will follow Routes 4003 (Long Level Road), 948, and Route 219, for a detour of approximately 18 miles.
The contractor will maintain pedestrian access across the bridge during construction.
Work on this project includes replacement of bridge joints, repair to the substructure, paving, and guide rail upgrades. HRI Inc. of State College is the contractor on this project, which includes rehabilitation of two other bridges in Clearfield County that will take place during the 2026 construction season. The total cost of the contract for work on all three of the structures is $1.5 million. PennDOT anticipates completion of the Route 4007 project in Elk County in August.
