The Cattaraugus County (N.Y.) Sheriff’s Office warned residents of a new text message scam circulating in the community.

The messages warn of a final notice for an outstanding traffic ticket, and threatens to suspend driving privileges and vehicle registration unless payment is made. The sheriff’s office reported Tuesday that the county Department of Motor Vehicles confirmed the messages are fraudulent.
