Susan McCracken
SMETHPORT — Susan Jane McCracken, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and nurse, 79, of Crosby, passed away Saturday (July 12, 2025) at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
She was born Jan. 30, 1946, in Kane, a daughter of Paul C. and Evelyn M. Almony Larson.
She was the devoted wife of David McCracken, who knew he would marry her the moment he first saw her. Married Oct. 7,1961, together they shared a lifetime of love and partnership.
Susan was a compassionate and dedicated nurse, she was inspired by her hero, Mother Teresa, and lived a life of service to others. After raising her children, she proudly returned to school, earning her high school diploma and later graduating first in her nursing school class.
She cared deeply for her family — especially her children and grandchildren, who were the joy of her life. Her legacy of love, kindness and quiet strength will live on in all who knew her.
Susan worked for Sylvania Electric, Jaguar Co. of Smethport, and was a nurse at Sena Kean Manor for many years, as well as caring for critically ill children as a home care nurse, before retiring.
Susan wrote a grant for Jaguar Co.’s employees years ago to help benefit them through union status. She was a voice for the workers she supported. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, David, she is survived by two sons, David R. (Michelle) McCracken of Bolivar, N.Y., and Daniel L. (Laurie) McCracken of Bloomsburg; two daughters, Donna M. (Dennis) Raught of Waddell, Ariz., and Paula J. (Jon) Christoffel of Merritt Island, Fla.; grandchildren Adam (Amy) and Alex Kordus, Eric (Abbie), Allison and Emily McCracken, James (Emilee) and Cayla Christoffel, Zachary (Lauren) and Cameron McCracken; step-grandchildren Denae and Tia Raught; great-grandchildren Jameson Christoffel, Rhyatt Greenman, Hadley and Owen McCracken; two brothers, Charles Larson of Conneaut, Ohio, and Larry (Florence) Larson of Smethport; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by one sister, Marlene Zetwick; and two brothers, Tom and Gary Larson.
