Walmart recalling 850,000 water bottles; could cause ‘permanent vision loss’
(TNS) — About 850,000 water bottles sold at Walmart stores are being recalled because they pose a “serious impact and laceration” hazard.
Walmart is recalling its Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles because the lid can forcefully eject when someone tries to open the bottles after food or carbonated or perishable beverages, such as juice or milk, have been stored in it for a period of time.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Walmart has received three reports of people who were struck in the face by these lids. Two of them suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye.
The bottles were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com since 2017. They cost about $15 and were sold with the model number 83-662 on the product packaging.
The bottles are silver with a black one-piece screwcap lid and have an Ozark Trail logo embedded on the side.
They were manufactured in China and imported by Olympia Tools International Inc., of Covina, California, and Walmart.
Anyone who owns this product should stop using it and contact Walmart for a full refund. They can also take the bottle to the nearest Walmart store for a refund.
Anyone with questions should Walmart at 800-925-6278 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT any day. They can also go online to www.walmart.com/help or corporate.walmart.com/recalls.
