This 26.5-mile diesel-powered adventure will depart from 4 Scott St. in the Village of Hamburg at 11 a.m. and wind through the scenic countryside to Buffalo Creek Junction in the City of Buffalo, then continue all the way back to North Collins before returning to Hamburg — a route steeped in history, tracing tracks that date back to 1867 when plans first connected Hamburg, Eden and Collins to the growing City of Buffalo.
Railroader and historian Ray Kolasa will bring the experience to life with an engaging, live narrative highlighting historic landmarks, forgotten rail lines and fascinating stories of Western New York’s railroading heritage. Adding to the authentic feel, the train will be pulled by a vintage 60-year-old locomotive built in 1965 — a true piece of rolling history.
“This is a rare chance to ride the rails where passenger trains do not usually run,” said Rick Fisher of Artcraft Toy Trains. “It’s an unforgettable experience for railfans and anyone who loves the hidden stories of Buffalo, the Southtowns and the surrounding region.”
Tickets for this three-hour excursion are $35 for adults and $30 for children and can be purchased by calling (716) 649-3079 or by visiting Artcraft Toy Trains during business hours. Seating is limited for this one-time-only trip. Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase aboard the train.
